Jacob Wolf was born August 13th, 1784 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He married Lydia Door on June 19th, 1806 in Athens County, Ohio. Together they had 8 children, including Josephus Wolf.1 The family left Athens County for Porter County in 1834. They traveled with Jacob's brothers, George, John, and Christopher, along with Barruch Dorr (Lydia's brother) and Catherine (Jacob's stepsister).2 Jacob's son, Edmund Dorr Wolf had come to Indiana before Jacob and the family.
Porter County was officially established in March of 1835. Edmund, John and Jacob voted in the first county election held on February 3rd, 1836. In May of 1836 Porter County was divided into Commissioners Districts, in which Jacob and a man named T. Blake were appointed as overseers of the poor. Many meetings and elections for the county were held at Jacob's residence. 3

Lydia died on October 3rd, 1842 and Jacob died on April 10th, 1851. They were both buried in the James-Schrock burial ground located in Portage, Indiana.4 The grounds were badly vandalized but luckily Lydia's headstone was saved and preserved. It now resides in Wolf Mansion as an artifact. When Jacob died, he gave Josephus the "the North East quarter of the Northwest quarter of Section Number thirty one In the Township Number thirty six (36) North of Range number Six (6) in Porter County containing forty acres more or less" in his will.5
