6. The Fourth Generation: Elmer, Frank and Martin Wolf

Frank Wolf

Frank Wolf was the oldest of his brothers. He was born April 14th, 1861.1 He attended Valparaiso University and married Ida May Arnold on March 2nd, 1880. Ida died on October 28th, 1893. She was involved in a carriage accident months earlier, in which a spoke pierced her lung.2 After his father died Frank received a large majority of the land alongside his uncle, Martin Young. Frank settled in Portage, Indiana on Swanson Road, where he built a house. Frank died on January 2nd, 1892 of pneumonia at only 30 years old. His property went to his son Kenneth, who also built a house.


Elmer Wolf

Elmer Ellsworth Wolf was born on September 22, 1863. He married Mary Esther Martin in 1885.3 Elmer decided to move from Indiana to North Dakota where he purchased 150 acres of land. He filed for bankruptcy in 1904 due to crop failure and a faulty lawyer who lost sales notes. In 1909 however, he was able to plant crops and make a profit. He attended the Seattle World's Fair and purchased land in Klamath Falls, Oregon and Lynden, Washington. Elmer stayed in Lynden until 1916, then went back to North Dakota where his crop failed again. Mary died on May 8th, 1921.4 Elmer stayed on his North Dakota homestead until 1925, until he decided to sell all his land and go live with his son Frank in British Columbia. He lived there until 1940, when he left to live with his son John in Oakville, Washington. He died there of heat stroke on July 30, 1942.5


Martin Young Wolf

Martin was the youngest of the three boys, born August 22nd, 1869. Martin married Nellie E. Gott on September 23rd, 1891 in Valparaiso, Indiana.6 Their son Leslie was born May 3rd, 1894. Leslie went on to build the Wolf's Lair Castle in Los Angeles, California. Martin and Nellie also had Mildred and Bonnie. The whole family relocated to California.7 Their great-great granddaughter, Jamie Wolf, provided old photos of the family and visited the Wolf Mansion in 2011.
